Italy ➜ Molise

The Molise region is located in southern Italy and is predominantly mountainous, with only very small areas of flat terrain. Molise is the smallest region in Italy after the Aosta Valley.

The Molise region is rich in deciduous and green forests, especially in the mountainous western part. The small region also has a great biodiversity as it has different types of environment such as high mountains, hills, coasts, rivers and lakes. For this reason, there are various environmental associations in the region such as WWF, LIPU and even UNESCO has often taken an interest in Molise's environmental heritage. There are many oases protected by these associations and regional or national parks. The most important are the Montedimezzo Nature Park (Isernia), the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park (Isernia) and the Bosco Casale Oasis (Campobasso).

The flora & fauna of the Molise region is characterized by various tree species on the coasts. There are many palm trees here, while numerous fir trees can be found on the mountain peaks. The green maquis of Molise is concentrated in the hilly mountain area, where various tree species such as beech, rowan, maple, wild apple trees and cherry trees can be found. Among the most important flowers are the alpine asters, the lady's slipper (Riccio di Dama) and the Venus slipper (Scarpetta di Venere).

Although Molise is a small region, there are several types of climate on its surface. In the west, 100% of the territory of Molise is mountainous, and the climate above 800 meters above sea level is a typical cold temperate mountain climate that keeps temperatures cool, so that summers are warm and bearable and winters are cold and snowy, which promotes white tourism. The eastern part of the region has a different, Mediterranean climate with warm temperate summers and cool winters.

Given the characteristics of this very mountainous region, it is not easy to think about the realization of golf courses. In fact, there are only two golf courses: the Varvarusa Golf Club (9 holes) and the Isernia Golf Club (3 holes). It can be said that the Molise region is suitable for mountain and nature lovers who prefer to plan a stay without golf.
